Our Story

Every stitch I knit has a story behind it, and my journey began over 50 years ago. When I was 11 years old, my mother went into hospital to have my baby sister. 

I was sent from Surrey to stay with my aunt in Manchester, who was a wonderful knitter. She asked if I would like to learn to knit so I could make a cardigan for my new baby sister to take home. I happily agreed.

 I still remember walking into the yarn shop and being completely captivated by the beautiful colours and textures. We chose a soft salmon pink yarn, and with my aunt's patient guidance, I knitted my very first cardigan. Seeing my baby sister wear something I had made with my own hands filled me with pride and sparked a lifelong passion for knitting.

Over the years, knitting has become far more than a hobby. It has been a creative outlet, a source of comfort and a way to express my love of craftsmanship. Every handmade piece reflects the care, patience and attention to detail that I have developed over many decades.

Today, Marianne's is the fulfilment of a lifelong dream. My collection includes handcrafted knitwear for adults, babies and children, together with carefully chosen knitted gifts and accessories. Whether creating timeless heirloom pieces or cosy everyday favourites, my aim is always the same—to produce beautiful knitwear that will be treasured and enjoyed for years to come.
